About BYA
“Blackwood Youth Action (BYA) was established in 2013 by a committed group of community members concerned about the wellbeing of young people in the Blackwood region, in particular youth who are marginalised and at-risk. The community group formed Blackwood Youth Action and was incorporated in 2015. Considerable consultation was then undertaken with our key stakeholders – young people aged 12 to 25, service providers within the health, education and community services sectors, and the wider community. The consultation process identified gaps and a range of initiatives to improve the health and wellbeing of marginalised youth in the region.”

“Young people should be at the forefront of global change and innovation. Empowered, they can be key agents for development and peace. If, however, they are left on society’s margins, all of us will be impoverished. Let us ensure that all young people have every opportunity to participate fully in the lives of their societies.” – Kofi Annan, 2001, Nobel Peace Prize
