BYA Youth Mental Health
Program
Because its OK to say, “I’m not OK.”
BYA provides a 3-tiered Mental Health Program. This program aims to help young people understand mental health issues and risks, develop coping strategies, build resilience, and to provide treatment for those experiencing mental health problems.
Tier 1: Promotion and Prevention
Tier 1 includes the following:
YARN about mental health. This is a Mental Health Expo for all year 9 students across the Warren Blackwood region. The expo features speakers talking about topics such as self-esteem, cyber safety, body image and mental illness.
Outreach. We meet young people in their popular hang-out spots. By hanging out with young people in their local environment, we aim to develop supportive relationships and provide the opportunity for education and mentoring.
Youth space drop-in centre. Here we seek to provide a safe space for young people to socialise and enjoy diverse activities.
We also provide a support group for LGBTIQAA+ young people.

Tier 2: Targeted Interventions
Tier 2 includes the following:
Mental Health Workshops. We partner with the Education Department to provide a series of four mental health workshops to year 9 students across six high schools in the Warren Blackwood District.
BYA Connect. This is a single-entry point for any young person who is in distress. We triage the young person’s needs and work with them to link them with the support they need.
Interest Led Learning Centre (ILLC). This is to help young people continue and further their education using their passions and interests. ILLC creates pathways for young people to pursue potential future education, training and employment.
Tier 3: Treatment
Tier 3 encompasses intensive and individualised treatment for young people with mental health challenges by our youth psychologist.
